WW2 KIA comes home to MS

PINE BELT, Miss. -Theodore Frank Scarborough is coming home after nearly 80 years. Scarborough, a Brooklyn native and 2nd Lieutenant bombardier in the United States Army Air Force during WWII, died on Aug. 1, 1943, north of Bucharest, Romania. His plane was hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire and exploded. His remains, never identified, were buried as “Unknowns” in the Hero Section of the Civilian and Military Cemetery of Bolovan, Ploiesti, Prahova, Romania. In 2017, his remains were exhumed and sent to a laboratory for examination and identification. After five years, the lab identified Scarborough. Hattiesburg's Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home received the remains April 14 from Jackson. Scarborough will be laid to rest with full military honors on April 22 at Maxie Methodist Church Cemetery in Maxie, Miss. (WDAM 04/14/23) Scarborough entered the U.S. Army Air Forces from Mississippi and served in the 345th Bombardment Squadron and 98th Bombardment Group.
