JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska - Two Army helicopters collided in flight April 27 near Healy, Alaska, while returning from a training mission, killing three soldiers and injuring a fourth, the Army said. Two died on scene of the crash. A third soldier died on the way to a hospital in Fairbanks. The fourth soldier was being treated at a hospital for injuries. The names were being withheld until relatives could be notified. The cause of the crash was under investigation. A team from the Army Combat Readiness Center at Fort Novosel, Alabama (formerly Fort Rucker), will conduct the investigation. Each AH-64 Apache helicopter was carrying two people at the time of the crash, John Pennell, a spokesperson for U.S. Army Alaska. The helicopters were from the 1st Attack Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment at Fort Wainwright, based near Fairbanks. (The AP 04/28/23)
