JACKSON, Miss. - The Tougaloo College Alumni Coalition for Change is seeking the removal of the school's President, Carmen J. Walters, with an online petition on the group's website. A total of 1,418 people have signed the petition, which has a goal of collecting 1,500 signatures to advocate for a change in leadership at the private, 153-year-old historically black college in Mississippi. According to the petition, the Coalition is seeking a leadership change after "repeated failures" by the administration. Dr. Walters became the 14th president of Tougaloo in 2019. Before assuming the presidency, Dr. Walters held various executive level positions at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) for six years. Before MGCCC, she held executive level positions at Delgado Community College in New Orleans for 18 years.
