Nine hundred and 11 acres at Interstate 12 and Louisiana 1088, which had been in bankruptcy and legal woes for years, is now being talked ab out by St. Tammany Parish and business leaders as the most significant economic development project for more than a decade. The site north of Mandeville is being called Gulf Coast Commerce Park, which was unveiled at a news conference April 14. The site aims to draw large logistics, distribution, advanced manufacturing and R&D projects, capitalizing on its location to New Orleans and ports. "There nothing like this in Southeast Louisiana," said Chris Masingill, St. Tammany Corporation's director. Parish President Mike Cooper called the park "one of the greatest economic development projects that we'll ever have in St. Tammany Parish." The park is a critical component in the strategy for the entire region, said Rachel Shields of GNO Inc. Advanced manufacturing contributes $3B to the GDP of greater New Orleans area and trade and logistics contribute an equal amount. Development will be in phases, with 189 acres on the southern end serving as the first. Crosby expects to break ground on a spec building by year's end and anticipates a tenant quickly. Masingill said his agency is working on three potential projects for the first phase. (NOLA.com 04/14/23) St. Tammany business park pursues warehousing, manufacturing | News | nola.com
