CINCINNATI, Ohio - Norfolk Southern has offered to buy Cincinnati's own railroad for $1.6B. But an air of mystery occurred Nov. 18 when a special meeting of the Southern Railway Board of Trustees was canceled without explanation. The board had been scheduled to discuss and potentially approve the sale. Cincinnati's RR connection to the South starts in the Queensgate yards, crosses the Ohio River and rumbles along 336 miles of track all the way to Chattanooga, Tenn. Cincinnati is the only city that owns an interstate rail line. Norfolk Southern, which leases the line, handles all the maintenance and repairs.
