NEW ALBANY, Miss. - Pascagoula native Martin Hegwood was named the 2022 winner of the William Faulkner Literary award for his manuscript titled Memphis. Hegwood becomes the first Mississippian in history of the competition to win first place in the Novel Category. The event was held here, where Faulkner was born in 1897. Hegwood is currently conducting research for a limited biography of Faulkner and his time in Pascagoula in the mid-to-late 1920s.
