TSA NOLA STOPS GUN: NAT'L AVG

A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans stopped a passenger with an assault rifle and 163 rounds of ammunition on Feb. 24. The passenger was slated to be on a flight to Houston. The traveler, a 52-year-old Jefferson, La., resident now faces a civil penalty from the TSA that could reflect a maximum of nearly $15,000. That firearm was the second intercepted on Valentine’s Day bringing a total of 14 firearms stopped by TSA this year at MSY. Thirteen of the 14 guns were loaded. (WDSU 02/16/23)

There were 6,542 guns that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) intercepted in 2022 - an average of about 18 a day - at airport checkpoints from coast to coast to coast. Guns intercepted tend to happen more at bigger airports. The top 10 list for gun interceptions in 2022 includes Dallas, Austin and Houston in Texas; three airports in Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; Atlanta; Phoenix; and Denver.
