VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' (USACE) Vicksburg District has entered into a Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) with the City of Jackson as part of the Environmental Infrastructure (EI) Program (Section 219) as authorized by the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 1992. “Through the Section 219 program, we are able to work together, with the City of Jackson, to provide water and wastewater infrastructure improvements to the community,” said Col. Christopher Klein, district director. Congress authorized $125M for improvements to Jackson’s water system infrastructure. The first increment of work will be the purchase of a 100-million gallon per day pump at the Savanna Street Wastewater Treatment Plant. Future projects will be determined by the city subject to federal law and regulation. The Section 219 authorizes improvements to water and wastewater infrastructure. Assistance may be in planning, design or construction for projects that are publicly owned. These projects are cost shared 75% federal and 25% non-federal. (USACE Vicksburg 02/06/23)
