Airbus Americas announced April 11 it has plans to hire 800 people in the U.S. this year, including new jobs at the Mobile, Ala., site where it’s expanding assembly facilities for its popular A321 family of jet liners; and Airbus Helicopters Inc. (AHI) in Texas and Columbus, Miss. In the announcement, Airbus said the U.S. hires are separate from a target of 800 in Canada. Out of the U.S. jobs, more than 500 will fill new positions. Airbus has 4,600 workers in the U.S. “Recruitment needs in the U.S. are varied,” said C. Jeffrey Knittel, President and CEO of Airbus Americas - engineering, IT, procurement, quality, production and support teams for its A320/A220 facilities in Mobile and AHI in Texas and Mississippi. About 67% of the jobs will support rapidly expanding commercial aircraft production and a third for supporting Airbus Helicopters and its U.S. Space & Defense. Airbus will "allocate one-third of its positions to young graduates and early-career professionals and will maintain its goal to increase the number of female new hires and promotions,” Knittel said.
