Tornadoes that swept through Mississippi in March devastated Rolling Fork and Silver City. It also caused extensive damage at Lake Monroe and forced its closure. "I went up there a couple of weeks ago and it was something to see," Jerry Brown, director of Fisheries at the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks told the Clarion Ledger. There was damage the fisheries' office building, campground bath house and equipment buildings. The piers and boat ramps were undamaged, but trees are blocking access. Debris cleanup begins this week. It'll take "a couple of months" to get the lake open for fishing, he said. Alternative sites include Trace State Park, Tombigbee State Park and Lake Lamar Bruce in Saltillo. (Clarion Ledger 04/19/23)
