Lee County, Miss., residents can study and provide feedback on a new multi-county plan designed for recovery from natural disasters. Lee County Emergency Management will provide drafts of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency’s new District 2 regional hazard mitigation plan to the public on Jan. 3. The draft condenses emergency plans - from Alcorn, Benton, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo and Union counties - into one regional document. Copies will be available through Jan. 14 at the Lee County Library; Lee County Board of Supervisors building lobby; and the Lee County Justice Center lobby. Among the purposes of the hazard mitigation plan is to list all critical structures and natural or man-made hazards in the region. According to FEMA’s website, hazard mitigation plans help reduce the risk of loss of life and property damage by identifying potential natural disaster risks and vulnerabilities in communities before a disaster occurs.
