MOBILE, Ala. - Austal USA was recognized Jan. 12 as the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2021 Manufacturer of the Year. According to Chamber VP of Economic Development David Rodgers, Austal USA received the honor for continuous forward-thinking, referring to the numerous changes Austal USA has made to its business operations to ensure a long future in Mobile. While continuing work on contracts to build aluminum ships for the Navy, Austal is adding a steel assembly line. In October, the Navy awarded Austal a $145M two-ship contract for Navajo-class Towing, Salvage, and Rescue Ships (T-ATS), the first ships to be built on the new steel line.
