Rear Adm. Darin Via received U.S. Senate confirmation to become the Navy’s 40th Surgeon General. He is a qualified Undersea and Diving Medical Officer. Via is the first anesthesiologist and first enlisted Corpsman to rise to the position of Navy Surgeon General.
In previous assignments, he served aboard USNS Comfort (TAH-20) during Operation Noble Eagle and was the surgery department head for Fleet Hospital Three, 1st Force Service Support Group (1st FSSG), at Camp Viper, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
