Phibro good news for Natchez?

Officials in SW Mississippi are hoping for Phibro, a Connecticut-based firm, to help save 74 jobs and bring new life to Delta-Energy Natchez LLC, a company that closed suddenly last week.

Delta-Energy Natchez ceased to operate and terminated most staff at its Natchez facility, where it worked to extract chemical components from old tires to be used to produce new tires.

Phibro, a global low-carbon commodity company, plans to purchase the hard assets of Delta-Energy, not the company itself, according to Chandler Russ, executive director of Natchez Inc.

Phibro’s plans to purchase those assets are “the best-case scenario possible” for Natchez and Adams County, Russ told the Natchez Democrat.

Phibro plans to operate and potentially expand the facility, adding capital investment and jobs, though "we still have some work to do," said Russ.

Simon T.W. Greenshields, president/CEO of Phibro, said operating the facility is his company’s intention.

“A few balls are still up in the air,” he told the newspaper - like a new lease agreement and working with suppliers.

Greenshields hopes details could be worked out by early January. (Natchez Democrat 12/16/23)
