Walmart is locating a fulfillment center in Olive Branch, Miss., to support its supply chain network and e-Commerce business. The $90M corporate investment will create 250 jobs at the DeSoto County site. Olive Branch is located about 15 miles south of Memphis. The new center, encompassing more than 1M square feet, will store merchandise that is picked, packed and shipped directly to customers. Walmart currently operates two distribution centers in Mississippi that are focused on receiving, storing and distributing merchandise to Walmart stores. The fulfillment center is part of a Walmart initiative to add more capacity to its supply chain in preparation for future growth in the mid-South region. Walmart operates 86 retail stores and employs more than 25,000 workers in Mississippi. The retailer currently is hiring for positions at the new Olive Branch facility, which is slated to open in the spring.
