HII will deliver two ship in '22

Huntington Ingalls Industries is expected to deliver the future USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD-28) by mid-year, the company said at a media briefing on Jan. 12. Fort Lauderdale finished her Bravo trials at the end of 2021, said George Nungesser, VP of program management for Ingalls Shipbuilding. The ship was christened in August and is the 12th San Antonio-class ship produced by the Pascagoula Miss.-based shipyard. HII has begun work on outfitting the future USS Richard M. McCool (LPD-29), which was launched this week. It is tentatively scheduled for delivery in late 2023. HII is working on the future USS Harrisburg (LPD-30) and is contracted for Pittsburgh (LPD-31), said LPD program manager Steve Sloan. HII-Pascagoula delivered in November its 33rd Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer to the Navy, USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG-121). There are five destroyers currently under construction: The future Lenah Sutcliffe Higbee (DDG-123), the last of the Flight IIA DDGs, is expected for delivery this year. Four Flight III DDGs include the already-launched USS Jack H. Lucas (DDG-125). Looking to the future, Sloan said it is important to see the funding for LPD-32, as well as some predictability for LHA-10. HII is under contract for LHA-9. (Source: USNI News 01/13/22)
