Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority's $1.28B, 76-project FY 2023 spending plan for hurricane protection and coastal restoration was presented for the first time at an authority meeting Jan. 20. It would align with the state’s spending goals for a coastal Master Plan, officials said. That broader plan calls for spending $50B over a half-century to shore up the state against sea level rise and other climate challenges. CPRA’s plan also includes $80M for engineering and design work for 33 projects, and another $11M for basic planning for five other projects. It’s a plan, not a budget because not all of the money has been turned over to the state yet, Chairman Chip Kline told NOLA.com. $2.7B of funding is being channeled via the Army Corps of Engineers’ budget. There’s the likelihood that spending totals in the plan will rise before it is presented to the Legislature.
