Some parts of central and north Mississippi were blanketed by snow in the morning hours of Jan. 16. Canton had where between 7-to-9 inches overnight. About 9 inches of snow was reported in Leesburg. Madison County saw about 8 inches of snow, while Farmhaven reported 7 inches. Lighter snowfall is pushing south and east across into the afternoon. Snowfall was as far south as Jones County, which saw a dusting, and around 2 inches in the Raleigh area. About 3,500 customers in parts of north Mississippi were without power, including Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tunica, Panola, Tippah, Benton and Alcorn counties, according to poweroutage.us. The system will continue to push east and south Sunday, but cold temperatures will remain. Temperatures are expected to warm Jan. 17 with a high around 54 degrees in Jackson before dropping to the low 30s in the evening hours. High temperatures on Jan. 18 will reach near 61 degrees.
