JACKSON, Miss. - The Associated Press reported Jan. 12 that the Mississippi Senate approved a congressional redistricting plan. The plan will be sent to Gov. Tate Reeves for approval. The plan passed the House last week. Republicans also control the Senate. Even if its approved, opponents could ask a federal court to review whether the new districts dilute the influence of Black voters. Political boundaries are updated every 10 years based on Census data to reflect changes in population, with the goal of having an equal number of residents in each district. (Source: The AP 01/12/22)
