New set of helos for NASWF

The Navy has awarded a third contract to AgustaWestland Philadelphia (Pa.) Corp. for 36 more new TH-73A training helicopters to be based at Naval Air Station Whiting Field, Fla., according to a media notice from Leonardo, the defense contractor that includes AgustaWestland as a subsidiary. The $159.4M contract comes almost two years after AgustaWestland was awarded an initial contract to deliver 32 TH-73As to NASWF. The Navy ordered an additional 36 TH-73A helicopters in November. In January 2020, Navy chose the TH-73A to replace the current TH-57A training helicopters. The newest contract brings the total number of TH-73As for Whiting to 104. A total of 130 will eventually come to the NW Florida base through 2024. NASWF is the center of helicopter training for all Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. (Source: Leonardo 12/22/21) Leonardo US Department of Defense exercises options for 36 TH-73A helicopters
