On Mobile, Ala.'s, Brookley Complex, dotted with major construction sites, Airbus celebrated a milestone May 8 with Delta Air Lines. Company execs, elected officials and a few dozen employees gathered to celebrate the delivery of the 100th Alabama-built A320-family jetliner to Delta.
“I’m starting to get really comfortable in Alabama,” said Jeff Knittel, chairman/CEO of Airbus Americas. “I just read in the Wall Street Journal that this is the place to be.” (WSJ reported coastal Alabama’s lower cost of living was tempting people to move from Florida.) “Preach it,” responded U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Ala.).
Delta flies more than 400 Airbus aircraft. If you count the A220-class jets, also assembled in Mobile, more than a quarter of them were manufactured in south Alabama.
Last year, Airbus confirmed plans for a third Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Mobile. The new line, like the first, will produce A320-family jets. (AL.com 05/08/23) Airbus celebrates delivery of Delta’s 100th Alabama-built A320 jet - al.com
