The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released its official predictions of a below-average 2023 Hurricane Season for the Gulf Coast.
NOAA forecasts 12-to-17 named storms; 5-to-9 becoming a hurricane; and 1-to-4 becoming a major hurricane. In the past few years, it's been an active season, but this year we are expecting a normal or even below-average season.
This below-average season is because an El Nino pattern is expected to form in the summer. For the southeast, an El Nino pattern will bring cooler temperatures and a wetter pattern.
Official hurricane season starts on June 1st and lasts till Nov. 30. (WAPT 05/25/23)
