JACKSON, Miss. - U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate extended a restraining order on May 22 temporarily blocking the appointment of four state court judges in Jackson. House Bill 1020, which includes the appointments, drew protests from residents who said state officials were stomping on civil rights.
Judge Wingate issued the temporary order earlier this month at the request of the NAACP. He held a hearing Monday and agreed to extend the order but did not set a date for the expiration of the restraining order. (The AP 05/22/23) Judge to consider extending HB 1020 restraining order (wapt.com)
