CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA) named Naval Aircrewman Mechanical Helicopter First Class (NAC/AW) Kenyada J. Palmer as its command-wide Sailor of the Year (SOY) for 2022.
CNATRA selected AWF1 Palmer as the top performer among other first class petty officers across the Naval Air Training Command, which spans five training air wings and 17 squadrons in Florida, Mississippi, and Texas.
Since 2019, he has been with the "Eightballers” of Helicopter Training Squadron Eight in Pensacola, Fla. HT-8 is one of three CNATRA helicopter training squadrons.
Palmer, a native of Boston, enlisted in the Navy in 2003. Following boot camp, he attended Naval Aircrew Candidate School and Aviation Machinist Mate (AD) “A” school in Pensacola.
Palmer performs duties as a Naval Aircrewman and Crew Chief on board the TH-57B/C Sea Ranger and the TH-73 Thrasher training helicopters.
During his time at HT-8, he was both Aircrewman of the Year and Sailor of the Year. He was directly responsible for training over 280 student Naval Aviators at HT-8.
Palmer converted to Naval Aircrewman Mechanical System Operator (AWF) in April 2022 to accept follow on orders to conduct forward operations serving as a Crew Chief on the V-22 Osprey rotary wing platform. (CNATRA 05/17/23) CNATRA names 2022 Sailor of the Year > United States Navy > News Stories
