USM's mil.gap tuition funding

The University of Southern Mississippi's TA Gap Funding program, announced in 2022, is an innovation to assist service members cover the “gap” between federal tuition assistance and remaining course tuition for TA-approved hours.

The program is set to begin for the Fall 2023 semester.

"This is almost too much to be true,” said Maj. Gen. (ret.) Jeff Hammond, director of the Center for Military Veterans, Service Members and Families at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM)

The program is off to a great start," he said. The TA (Tuition Assistance) Gap program is in its "outreach phase" to ensure service members have awareness of this "unique opportunity for a no-cost higher education tuition experience.”

USM leads public universities across Mississippi in TA enrollment of members into 158 courses.

Once eligible military students are approved for federal TA, the next step is contacting the Center for Military Veterans. USM will help students through the process of applying for TA Gap Funding.
