The Navy is planning another multi-year purchase (from 2023-27) of Arleigh Burke-class destroyers ships built by only Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Pascagoula, Miss., shipyard and Bath (Maine) Iron Works, Acting SECNAV Thomas W. Harker shared recently with the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense. It would be the fifth multi-year buy since the last in 2018. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the subcommittee, questioned the administration’s "seriousness" to the military given a “meager" budget proposal. “Multi-year contracts are very important to us," Harker said. "We do intend to sign another multi-year for DDGs starting in '23 through '27 and continue that procurement into the foreseeable future."
