Meridian, Miss., is seeking a new community development director after Laura Carmichael’s announcement to leave the position to take a new job in the private sector within the next several weeks “It’s been an honor” to work for Meridian the last six years, she told the Meridian Star. Mayor Jimmie Smith, who nominated Carmichael to continue as director, will have to choose someone to lead the department in an interim capacity, then nominate a new director. Smith officially became mayor July 1. The council postponed a vote last week all nominees until July 13’s meeting at 9 a.m. in the third-floor city auditorium. Before serving as community development director, Carmichael worked as the city’s cultural affairs coordinator. She previously worked at Rush Health Systems. (Source: 97/12/21)
