NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard rescued five boaters July 16 about 44 miles off the coast of Pensacola, Fla. Coast Guard Sector Mobile (Ala.) got a report at 2:08 p.m. regarding a disabled 38-foot vessel that was taking on water, and that boaters were preparing to abandon ship. A CG Station Pensacola boat crew recovered all five; none required further medical attention and were taken to CG Station Pensacola. “Let this be a reminder to all boaters the importance of having a radio on your boat.” said Lt. Cmdr. Chris Miller, search and rescue mission coordinator. The boaters’ onboard radio was “influential in their rescue,” he says, and was able to hail and identify their location via emergency channel 16. (Source: Coast Guard 07/16/21)
