With less than six months to a proposed restart of passenger train service between South Mississippi and New Orleans - on or about Jan. 1 - Amtrak has asked the Surface Transportation Board to expedite its application. Amtrak’s motion indicated that the restoration of passenger train service – from New Orleans to Mobile, Ala. - would alleviate congestion on the highways and offer a more energy-efficient way to travel.
