Renick to TVA board; Biz news

WASHINGTON - President Biden has nominated William "Bill" Renick Sr. of Ashland, Miss., to the board of directors of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Renick is currently the chairman of the Commission on the Future of Northeast Mississippi. He previously served as the workforce division director at Three Rivers Planning and Development District in Pontotoc. The TVA board is currently comprised of individuals from Tennessee and Georgia. (Source: WTVA 06/04/22)


*Yokogawa Corp. of America, which specializes in industrial automation, has opened a technology center in Baton Rouge. Several dozen people will be hired at its office, which will also serve as a local hub for engineers and sales staff that service clients in the area. Tokyo-based Yokogawa has clients in a range of industries, including energy, chemicals, materials, pharmaceuticals and food. (Source: NOLA.com)


*The Greater Baton Rouge Industry Alliance will hold its first Industry Showcase on June 9 from 2-6 p.m. at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, La. Attendees will be able to find cost-saving solutions, ideas to improve efficiencies and the latest technologies available to industry. Targeted industries include petrochemicals, energy, paper, oil refining and other manufacturing industries in south Louisiana. *Georgia-Pacific’s collaboration with the federal EPA has led to two facilities becoming the first Energy Star certified mills of their type in the U.S. and seven others achieving industry-leading energy reductions. The Port Hudson paper mill in Zachary, La., earned the Energy Star Challenge Achiever for Industry award, a global call-to-action for industrial sites to reduce their energy intensity by 10 percent within five years. By decreasing water, electricity, and compressed air usage and installing a more efficient natural gas boiler, Port Hudson went above that mark in just two years – reducing its energy intensity by 18.5 percent.
