COLUMBUS, Miss. - Lowndes County is going solar. State and local officials meet to June 6 to announce the construction of a 150mw solar facility by Miami-based Origis Energy. The project is estimated to generate electricity to about 35,000 homes. Origis is making a $120M investment that will also create hundreds of construction jobs. It will also be a source of energy for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and Mississippi ratepayers. The project will be built on 1,500 acres of land near Columbus.
