Port of Mobile volumes robust

MOBILE, Ala. - Through the five months of 2022, container volumes were robust at the Port of Mobile - 225,883 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) or an 11.6% gain over volumes from the 2021 period. May container volumes were down 6% due to the volatility of Trans-Pacific trade associated with COVID-19 lockdowns in China. The port’s intermodal rail volumes in May exceeded expectations with 208% growth. The Alabama Port Authority and partner APM Terminals are investing $104M to include Phase 4 of the container terminal expansion, and an on-dock efficient intermodal rail solution. The project adds 32 acres to APMT's existing 134-acre marine terminal and increases annual throughput capacity to 1M TEUs. The Port Authority will invest another $38M in an inter-terminal connector between the terminal and the intermodal rail facility and logistics park, along with some improvements to support warehouse and distribution facilities. (Source: Port of Mobile 06/14/22) Port of Mobile Container Volumes Remain Robust Intermodal Rail Posts Triple Digit Growth – Port of Mobile (alports.com)
