Nation's 1ar remote ATC center

DALLAS COUNTY, Ala. - A former Air Force base in Selma, Ala., will soon be home to the nation’s first Remote Traffic Tower Air Traffic Control Center (RTC), according to the Selma Economic Development Authority. Advanced ATC Inc., an air traffic control academy out of\ Valdosta, Ga., will lead the project and plans to invest nearly $4.7M to set up the Remote Tower Air Traffic Control Center at Craig Field. Remote tower technologies allow ATCs to perform the functions of a traditional control towers from a different location through cameras and real-time video, according to officials. There are currently no remote virtual towers in operation in the U.S. but is taking root in Europe. The remote tower will be equipped to support aviation expansion and air traffic control services for up to 40 airports across the country.
