After hosting a quarterfinal game Jan. 1, 2026, New Orleans' future as a host for the College Football Playoffs is uncertain, Sugar Bowl Committee CEO Jeff Hundley told a luncheon crowd, there to celebrate the bowl game's 90th anniversary.
“(We've) been told that the cost to play is going up."
“We will begin negotiating this spring to compete for 2027,” Hundley said. “We cannot currently compete. That is why we are working on this.”
The committee is imploring the community and business leaders to step up to keep the Sugar Bowl in the game. The CFP will go to a 12-team format in 2024-25, which means playoff sites will be expanded potentially to locations with shiny new stadiums - Las Vegas and Nashville.
