Mississippi state, local and federal law enforcement agencies are investigating a shooting that took place near the home of U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) in Lincoln County. Gunshot
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said the incident happened about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, near the senator's home. The Daily Leader reported that Hyde-Smith and her family were returning from church when the shots were fired but no indication any of the family was at the Brookhaven residence at the time.
No injuries were reported, according to MBI officials.
Hyde-Smith has represented Mississippi in the U.S. Senate since 2018. (WAPT 10/22/23)
Update: Sources tell SuperTalk Mississippi News that gunfire rang out as family members of the Republican senator were arriving at the Brookhaven residence after church.
At this time, it is unclear if Hyde-Smith was home at the time of the shooting. Casings from a firearm were said to have been found outside the residence.
