NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard rescued eight people on the morning of Oct. 7 from an overturned vessel near Horn Island, Miss.
Coast Guard Station Pascagoula received an emergency relay from Jackson County Sheriff’s Office that a boat near Horn Island was sinking. CGS Pascagoula launched a 45-foot response boat-medium rescue crew.
At 10:10 a.m., a HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew from CG Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala., that was conducting training, located the overturned vessel. The aircrew reported all eight people were holding onto the overturned boat.
The boatcrew arrived and embarked seven adults and a child aboard. The child was the only one wearing a lifejacket.
The boatcrew transported them back to the CG station and transferred them to awaiting emergency medical services personnel. No significant medical concerns were reported. CG medivacs man from cruise ship
In the evening of Oct. 6, the Coast Guard medevaced a 62-year-old man from the Carnival Dream cruise ship approximately 218 miles south of Point Fourchon, La.
The Coast Guard received a report from the cruise ship of a man reportedly diagnosed with a bowel obstruction by the cruise ship medical staff.
The CG launched a New Orleans-based MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew to conduct the medevac and a Mobile-based HC-144 Ocean Sentry for cover flight.
The Jayhawk aircrew hoisted the man and ship's nurse aboard and transported the man to University Medical Center in New Orleans. He was last reported in stable condition. (CG 10/0723)
