Cruise ship back; ANG deploying

MOBILE, Ala. - After a year's hiatus from Alabama's Port City, a Carnival cruise ship is back. The Carnival Spirit arrived at the Alabama Cruise Terminal at 5 a.m. on Oct. 6.

Around this time last year, Carnival Ecstasy made its final trip from Mobile.

The Ecstasy has been replaced by Spirit, offering five-, six- eight- and 12-day itineraries out of Mobile to destinations including Belize, the Bahamas and Key West. Spirit has 600 balcony staterooms with additional amenities, entertainment options and enough space for up to 2,100 cruisers. Alabama guard deploying to southern border

Alabama is deploying 275 National Guard soldiers to address the ongoing crisis at the southern border, according to the office of Gov. Kay Ivey.

In a statement, the governor said: “Every state has become a border state under the current policies, and Alabama remains committed to being an integral part of the mission to protect our Southern Border. The Alabama National Guard always stands ready to protect our citizens, and I thank our 275 troops, as well as their families, for their important service to our country.”

The governor's office says Ivey also joined Republican colleagues, including Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves, in a letter to President Joe Biden emphasizing the tremendous burden the current policies are putting on all states.
