JACKSON, Miss. - Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cardholders may be at risk of having those funds stolen. EPT funds are part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and how over 250,000 people buy groceries for their kids.
Over the last several months, families across the state have had those funds go missing. For the neediest in Mississippi, funds through SNAP are the difference between their child eating or going hungry.
Over the last several months, some parents have had to face that difficult decision when hundreds of dollars went missing from their accounts.
It's something the Mississippi Department of Human Services says they have been watching.
"We’re seeing reports of it sporadically around the country," Mark Jones, Chief Communications Officer for MDHS, said. "A card will be used in the state of origin" and then show up on the other side of the country the next day.
Even though families have reported missing funds, they will still have to go the rest of the month with what's left on the card for groceries. But that’s not up to MDHS. (WLBT 07/10/23) SNAP Benefit EBT cards are getting hacked in Mississippi (wdam.com)
