Background: Morganza to the Gulf is a flood protection system for Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes consisting of levees, locks, and floodgates. It is designed to provide 100-year, Category 3 storm surge protection to more than 150,000 people over 1,700 square miles of marsh. It was authorized by federal laws in 2007 and 2014, and incorporated lessons learned from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Federal-led construction for the project started in December 2021 with a Project Partnering Agreement and funding from the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021.
