STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State University announced a milestone in its history of philanthropic achievement during FY 2023 that eclipsed all previous single-year fundraising records among state public institutions of higher education.
MSU reached $259.9M in gift commitments marking the 10th consecutive year of private gifts totaling more than $100M.
The success of FY 23 was made possible through the generosity of 20,460 unique contributors.
Alumni participation again reached 19.5% - well above the 8% national average reported by U.S. News. Additionally, nearly 6,600 people contributed to MSU for the first time and more than $5.3M of the total funds raised were accounted from gifts of $1,000 or less.
Counted among the FY 23 fundraising total is a collective $40.2M in deferred gifts.
This support enabled more than 5,000 scholarships amounting to more than $11M to be awarded to students in FY 23. At least one highlight of the 2023 gift commitments included a $100M commitment to bolster the George Bishop Family Endowed Scholarship marked the largest single gift in university history.
