JACKSON, Miss. - Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch and the Mississippi State Board of Contractors (MSBOC) are sharing tips with Mississippians to avoid contractor scams as the Atlantic hurricane season approaches June 1. “The best defense against scammers is a well-educated consumer,” said Fitch. MSBOC Executive Director Stephanie Lee says that those who hire unlicensed contractors put themselves at risk. Natural disasters "lead to an increase in individuals posing as legitimately licensed contractors in an effort to prey upon vulnerable citizens,” Lee said.
