Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) Gulfport, Miss., has been ramping up preparations for Hurricane Delta, which according to National Weather Service forecasts is scheduled to make landfall along the northern Gulf Coast sometime between Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10. NWS estimates the earliest reasonable arrival time of storm winds may be sometime late Thursday. NCBC has begun taking precautions in preparation of potential damaging winds, rain and flooding as a result of Delta, according to Kayci Slagel, NCBC Emergency Management emergency operations center (EOC) manager. “We’ve had a few close calls this season, but ... doesn’t mean we should become complacent,” she said. NWS forecasts show the storm potentially making landfall somewhere along the Louisiana/Miss. coastline, which would put the Mississippi coast on the harsher eastern side of the storm. "It is always important to be prepared. Like the saying goes, ‘prepare for the worst, hope for the best',” said Slagel. (Source: NCBC Gulfport 10/06/20) Hurricane Delta has developed into a 'Cat 4' as it prepares to cross the Yucatan Peninsula, and turn in a northerly direction.
