Port Fourchon, a Lafourche (La.) Parish service base for most oilfields in the Gulf of Mexico, has issued a voluntary evacuation ahead of Hurricane Delta. The storm is producing tropical-force winds expected to impact the port within 72 hours. Delta’s uncertain track and magnitude has led officials to ask port tenants/users to be alert for updates and prepare for the potential for things to change quickly. Port Fourchon officials are asking workers to review hurricane plans, stockpile loose materials that could blow away, and update contact information. (Source: Houma Tod0ay 10/06/20) Hurricane Delta has been ungraded to a Category 4. It is anticipated to cross the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, and into the Gulf of Mexico's warm waters where it likely is to turn to a more northerly direction, according to the National Hurricane Center.
