At least two Gulf Coast regional military bases have gone to what DoD calls Health Production Condition (HIPCON) B in response to COVID-19. In addition to the limited level HPCON Alpha actions, HPCON Bravo (one step above at the moderate level) includes the following actions: Strict Hygiene (no handshaking, wipe common-use items); if exposed, self-isolate (wear mask and remain home); avoid contaminated water/food or risk areas; and communicate personal risk, symptoms through the chain of command. NAS/JRB New Orleans officially went to HIPCON B on Oct. 15; and NCBC Gulfport, Miss., on Oct. 16. HPCON B measures are mandatory for service members and highly encouraged for civilians/contractors, and family members. These measures are required to ensure the continued health and safety for all aboard. (NAS/JRB & NCBC Gulfport 10/15/20)
