COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the Golden Triangle. Lowndes County is leading the way with there have been 4,128 total cases since the start of the pandemic. The state health department reported 621 new cases between Dec. 16-26. Oktibbeha County saw 257 new cases (total 3,242); Clay County reported 123 new cases (total 1,268). Noxubee County reported 57 new cases (total 900). The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 1,701 new COVID-19 statewide cases (total 206,388) and 28 additional deaths as of Dec. 28 (total 4,606). As of Saturday, there have been 85 deaths in Lowndes, 70 in Oktibbeha, 30 in Clay, and 20 in Noxubee since the pandemic began. Statewide, there have been 4,606 deaths. (Source: The Dispatch 12/28/20) WEST ALABAMA NUMBERS: The Alabama Department of Public Health’s Dec. 27 data shows coronavirus cases grew by 2,170 overnight to 345,628. The death toll rose by six to 4,691. Mobile County led the state with the most new cases (265). Some of the counties adjacent to East Mississippi include Colbert 4,430 (+29), Lauderdale 6,117 (+78), Pickens 1,675 (+19), and Sumter 818 (+2).
