BILOXI, Miss. - A Biloxi Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center social worker’s project was selected for investment by the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Innovators Network (iNet) program in mid-November. Lindsey Thibodeaux, a Biloxi VA social worker at the facility’s Community Living Center (CLC), designed the Dementia Activity Cart, a project ultimately accepted as part of the VHA iNET Spark-Seed-Spread Innovation Investment Program, an initiative designed to employ a diverse range of practices using innovation to deliver a better experience for Veterans, their families and VA employees. Thibodeaux’s project is designed to enhance the care by having resources available to provide veterans with meaningful activities and sensory stimulation. The cart would be easily accessible to all staff in an acute care setting and would be stocked with various items designed to assist in therapeutic intervention, sensory stimulation and entertainment. SSSIIP includes support and opportunities including funding for the development and/or implementation of a prototype or pilot; and access to professional innovation and lean start-up accelerator-style training. Thibodeaux’s project marks the fifth consecutive year GCVHCS projects have been recognized for investment by the program. (Source: GCVHCS 12/16/20)
