Children of military families enrolled in Tricare Young Adult (TYA) will see a 22 percent monthly cost increase beginning in January, according to Eileen Huck, deputy director for health care at the National Military Family Association. Current monthly enrollment for TYA is $376. Huck told Military Times that a senior defense health official informed military service organizations of the increases. Families currently pay $4,500+ annually in enrollment fees for the coverage. The increase would add almost $1,000 more a year. Monthly enrollment fees are $228, and are scheduled to increase 12 percent, she said. More than 37K unmarried, adult children of military sponsors were enrolled in either the TYA (10,509) or Select (26,830) programs as of 2019, according to DoD. Those eligible are at least 21 years old, but not yet 26. Regular Tricare coverage through the military sponsor ends at age 21, or 23 if enrolled in college.
