New pact btwn TRA, Contour

TUPELO, Miss. - Contour Airlines and Tupelo Regional Airport (TRA) agreed to another two-year extension for air service. The new pact goes into effect on Oct. 1. But,  Contour will reduce the number of weekly flights from 18 to 14. The subsidy it receives for serving Tupelo airport has been reduced to around $3.8M vice $3.9M for the last contract. The number “did drop," said airport executive director Cliff Nash, but TRA took one flight from Tuesdays schedule and "rearranged where the plane stays, and we still have three flights leaving going to Nashville on Friday and three flights coming back on Sunday.” The new schedule has the 30-passenger jets leaving Tupelo for one-hour flights to Nashville on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. From Nashville to Tupelo on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Contour has been Tupelo's carrier since April 2016. Boardings over the past three years have reached 10,000, the first time since the early 2000s when TRA was served by two airlines. But, since the COVID-19 pandemic, Tupelo boardings have fallen 40 percent, which is better than the national average (-70 percent). TRA ranks third in Mississippi behind Laurel-Hattiesburg and Meridian. Columbus is fourth, and Jackson No. 6. (Source: Daily Journal 10/15/20) https://www.newsbreak.com/mississippi/tupelo/news/2082552727878/contour-tupelo-regional-agree-to-new-two-year-contract
