NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard Cutter Dauntless returned to its homeport at NAS Pensacola, Fla., this past weekend after a 56-day patrol in support of Hurricane Laura, and Pacific Ocean interdiction of about 3,500 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of more than $59M. In late August, Dauntless responded in support of Hurricane Laura relief efforts as an offshore search and rescue asset near Lake Charles, La. After assisting relief efforts, Dauntless transited through the Panama Canal, and into the Pacific Ocean to support interagency efforts in combating the transport of illegal drugs. "I am proud of the crew's accomplishments, and grateful for the sacrifices of my shipmates and their families back home" with the COVID-19 pandemic and the rebuilding in the wake of Hurricane Sally, which made landfall while Dauntless was underway, said Cmdr. Paul S. McConnell, Dauntless’ commanding officer. The patrol marks the Dauntless’ second operational patrol during the COVID-19 pandemic.
