A Piper Navajo twin-engine airplane crashed at the Army Aviation Support Facility near the Tupelo (Miss.) Regional Airport around 8 a.m. on June 3.
A Facebook post that afternoon from the St. Janes Catholic Church asked followers to "keep the family and friends of the Montgomery Family in your thoughts and prayers."
The post confirmed Dr. Charles "Chaz" Montgomery - a Tupelo doctor - and Patrick Fain as victims of the crash. Montgomery often flew with Fain, a flight instructor.
Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green said the bodies had been sent to the state medical examiner's office in Jackson for autopsy and for DNA confirmation.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the cause of the accident. (Daily Journal 06/03/23)
